Champion Elliott Kim takes on challengers Kate Campolieta and Chuck Beem.
Jeopardy Round
Once Kate takes control of the board after answering correctly on the second clue of the round, she proceeds ultra-aggressively in selecting the $1000 clues in the “Lady’A'”, “Where’s My Food?”, “Westminster-Winning Dog Breeds” categories, getting them right one after another. Only after her selection of the $1000 clue in “A Biblical Burial” results in a triple stumpper, Kate goes for more conservative dollar amounts. By that time she has $3400 and is well in the lead.
Elliott gains some momentum in the middle of the round, getting up to $2200 at one point. Unfortunately for him, in the “Where’s My Food?” category, Elliott responds to a clue about “Baked Alaska” with “Baked Alaskan”, and that drops him to $700.
Chuck then makes his move, answering three clues correctly on the category “A Biblical Burial”, finishing with $1800 for the round. However, at the end of the round, one of his accepted responses, “Let the Dead Bury the Dead”, is overruled since the correct response should be “Let the Dead Bury Their Dead”. The $1600 swing sets him back at $600.
Double Jeopardy
Kate begins to take off not long after the start of the round, scoring on large dollar amounts in the 4th, 5th, and 6th clues of the round. After the 9th clue, Kate leads Chuck and Elliott at $12400 to $2200 and -$100, respectively. However, that would be Kate’s highest cumulative amount achieved during Double Jeopardy, as she had a net loss of $800 since that point until the end of the round. Although, Kate’s score seems to be enough, as neither Chuck nor Elliott is able to make any significant gains this round, each only amassing $800. Perhaps it is a rather difficult set of clues, as there are a total of 11 triple stumpers in this round.
Final Jeopardy
Category: Classical Music
Clue: “Composed around 1720, this group of instrumental works was dedicated to a younger brother of Prussion King Frederick I”.
Correct Response: “What are the Brandenburg Concertos?”
The Brandenburg Concertos are might fine pieces of work and very enjoyable to listen to. I especially appeciate that the brass and woodwind instruments are showcased and get the opportunity to be heard in small ensemble settings. Unfortunately for the contestants, this turns out to be another triple stumper.
